Hello dear community! It’s me, Amanda, the owner, operator, creative director and sole employee at THE HOUSE Handcrafted. I often use “we” phrasing when referring to this space and that is because I dream of having a team and artist collective / co-op business that is regenerative, non-extractive, harm reducing with a life of its own. Even more, I think you are a major part of this “we” because even though so much of my passion and soul resides in this vision, I made THE HOUSE Handcrafted for YOU.
I made it because frankly, the world needs places like this, places that resist perfectionism and homogeneity. The world needs places that celebrate and embrace a different approach, that prioritize imagination and dreams. The world needs third places that can inspire and uplift people from all generations and socio-economic backgrounds. That world needs queer places. Places that are quirky and weird and not over simplified and diluted (white washed) for the sake of sales.
But when you pull back the curtain, it’s just me, the great and powerful OZ <sparkle sparkle>. But seriously, I do make with my hands more than half of what is sold at THE HOUSE, I search for every curated item, make price tags out of salvaged material, hang nearly every shelf, manage logistics, coordinate with artists, build the website, take the photos, literally everything passes through my hands physically, all while trying to communicate this expanding and evolving vision. Some kind of juggling/circus metaphor is in there. I see glimpses of myself with this high level executive ability,
hoping that you like it.

I made the house handcrafted for you.
I set out to create THE HOUSE Handcrafted - a creative vision that has been coming into clearer view throughout my life - with a (not quite) $5k tax return and very strong will. And though every entrepreneur says this, it has been a JOURNEY getting to this point. A point that feels very pivotal, so much success, inspiration, hope and healing has come from this space and I feel overwhelmed with love for the ability to create this for you.
Am I making loads of dough? NO. Am I sacrificing some of my own energy reserves and creative impulses to create a foundation for something I want to last? YES. Entering my third holiday season with a brick and mortar shop and I’ll give it to you straight: I am so saturated with trying I have to assume everything is going to be great. To give it to you more directly, I feel a bit like a housewife. If you know me from/as @formerhousewife you may be tuned into the fact that I have put a lot of energy into shadow work in order to face and heal complex ptsd, a path I began walking about 8 years ago. A lot of this work has been about releasing the oppressive eye of perfectionism, and recovering from involuntary people pleasing. And not so surprisingly, this journey has been a path back home for me to embrace the reality that every aspect of life is different when it is in and out of balance. That there is no subjective reality : that everything is based on your perception, that the grass isn’t ever greener, it just depends on your viewpoint.
I see that we are all on our own journeys of love and acceptance - a pursuit to (re)discover the spectacular nature of you - that internal flame - and come to common ground with others.
I’ve often heard the phrasing, if you build it, they will come so I guess this is to say you’re invited! THE HOUSE Handcrafted is an outpost, created to empower and fortify your journey. We have items to support your joy, magic and connection to the natural world and gifts for the magical people in your life. You only need to walk through the threshold to start benefiting from the energy this creation generates. From me to you, with love <3<3
On the recent episode on the Follow Your Spark podcast, hosted by Gina Casbarro, we discuss the magic I create and some of the values I hold dear. Give it a listen if you want to get to know me more.
